Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) also another ligament connecting the femur and tibia can be torn during contact sports causing pain, swelling and discomfort.

The rubber cartilage between the femur and tibia that absorbs the shock from the knee can be torn during twisting motion in sports such as basketball, golf and football.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome which is the tightening of the tissues from hip to the knee most common in distance runners and cyclist.

Osgood-Schlatter Disease is most commonly in children who participates in running and jumping sports like running, high jump, long jump, ballet, football and basketball. It causes painful bump at the shin below the knee.
